The aim of this study was to investigate the vulnerabilities of women involved in a bean value chain development intervention at the Maendeloe Innovation Platform in Eastern DRC. Specifically, the paper first discusses the roles of women and men in the value chain, what production resources and benefits they access and control, the role of the IP as a vehicle for women’s empowerment, and identifies women’s gender needs. Secondly, the paper identifies women’s vulnerabilities, and the capacities that the IP could build on, to support their participation in bean value chain development
The 2021 Global Report on Food Crises (GRFC 2021) highlights the remarkably high severity and numbers of people in Crisis or worse (IPC/CH Phase 3 or above) or equivalent in 55 countries/territories, driven by persistent conflict, pre-existing and COVID-19-related economic shocks, and weather extremes. The number identified in the 2021 edition is the highest in the report’s five-year existence. The report is produced by the Global Network against Food Crises (which includes WFP), an international alliance working to address the root causes of extreme hunger.
This study sought to examine the gaps and draw lessons for effective Innovation platforms (IPs) formation using the case of the coffee IPs in the four districts of Luwero, Ntungamo, Bushenyi and Rakai in Uganda. The overarching mission of the Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Collaborative Research on Peanut Productivity & Mycotoxin Control (PMIL) is to apply leading innovative US science to improve peanut production and use, raise nutrition awareness and increase food safety in developing countries. PMIL aims to integrate two major themes – peanut production and mycotoxin research – under one roof as part of a value chain approach.
El objetivo dee este trabajo fue determinar la viabilidad de la cunicultura y su articulación de producción cunícola a una cadena de valor con un enfoque de producción en granja integral para mejorar la seguridad alimentaria y aumento de recursos de las familias rurales.
Este documento describe el análisis de situación de una organización enfocada en seguridad alimentataria. Fue realizado un diagnóstico previo que analiza la situación actual de la organización. El diagnóstico se realizó mediante una herramienta que permite calificar siete capitales o recursos de la organización mediante un conjunto de criterios o preguntas. La información para completar la herramienta fue obtenida mediante entrevistas y grupos focales realizados con el personal de la organización.
El presente estudio tiene como propósito identificar y analizar las diferentes actividades que realizan las familias en las ECAS y las estrategias utilizadas por estos proyectos para implementar la ECA en la comunidad de Port-Margot, Acul du Nord y Grande Riviere du Nord y dar recomendaciones para mejorar las acciones en el campo a fin de aportar en la mejora de la calidad de vida de las familias.
