In Vietnam, while glutinous rice farming represents a very small sub-sector of rice production, it plays an important role in the food and cultural security of farming households in many remote areas. Poor farmers seldom benefit from new agricultural technologies. In response, research and extension approaches based on agricultural innovation systems are popular. Often agricultural research organisations are the network brokers, facilitating the emergence of the innovation system. Based on an analysis of the Sustainable Modernization of Traditional Agriculture (MasAgro) initiative in Mexico, this viewpoint suggests that such organisations are more often suitable network brokers when the objective is the development and scaling out of a technology by itself.

This paper examines reconfigurations of household economies and agrobiodiversity through the experiences and responses of rural households to local manifestations of globalisation and environmental change in the Central Valley of Tarija, Bolivia, from the 1950s to the present. Research participant narratives from seven study communities document a widely experienced regional shift from rain-fed agriculture and pastured livestock production for household consumption to market-oriented production of regionally-specialised commodities.
This manual sets out the steps to guide rural advisory and agricultural extension workers to successfully integrate trees in rice-field and associated farms and landscapes using practical tools for implementing agroforestry practices on farms in Southeast Asia. Developed in collaboration by FAO with CIFOR-ICRAF, the manual builds on manifold experiences, consultations, and visits, especially in Indonesia, Lao People’s Democratic Republic (PDR), the Philippines and Thailand. The FFS approach is introduced as one of the best ways to share learning and knowledge and to discover technologies.

In this paper, we assess the usefulness, constraints, and factors likely to influence farmers’ decisions to patronize mobile phone-based weather and market information. The study rely on primary data from 310 farmers in the Upper West Region, an understudied part of Ghana.
