Ce document est le résultat d’un processus participatif ayant impliqué l’ensemble des parties prenantes dans la conduite de l’expérience pilote des champs écoles agropastoraux au Burkina Faso. Il constitue la synthèse des points de vue et des perceptions de différents acteurs institutionnels ayant participé activement à la réflexion critique de l’expérience.
Les pays du Sahel et de l’Afrique de l’Ouest sont confrontés à une dégradation continue et alarmante des ressources naturelles causée essentiellement par la pression des actions anthropiques sur l'environnement. Parmi ces ressources en dégradation, figurent en bonne place les terres. La dégradation des terres n’est pas seulement un problème sous régional, mais aussi un défi mondial. La communauté internationale s’est donc mobilisée à travers plusieurs mécanismes pour accompagner les efforts menés par les pays affectés.
The contributions and dynamic interaction of thousands of stakeholders from all sectors have created the GCARD (Global Conference on Agricultural Research for Development) Roadmap, providing a clear path forward for all involved. The Roadmap highlights the urgent changes required in Agricultural Research for Development (AR4D) systems globally, to address worldwide goals of reducing hunger and poverty, creating opportunity for income growth while ensuring environmental sustainability and particularly meeting the needs of resource-poor farmers and consumer.

This is the third volume of the proceedings of the national conference on "Water for Food and Environment", which was held from June 9 -11, 2009 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH). The International Water Management Institute (IWMI) has been working in Nepal since 1986 with the objective of undertaking research in water management and to strengthen the research capabilities of concerned government agencies. The slow rate of agricultural development in Africa can largely be blamed on lack of functional relationships between technology/innovation generation centers, local farming communities, financial institutions and markets. The result has been low penetration of promising innovations/technologies thus, low adoption levels and/ or partial adoption; and limited or no access to markets and financial services by farmers. The Philippines is one of the most disaster-prone countries worldwide. Bicol Region is regularly exposed to a variety of natural hazards including tropical storms, typhoons, droughts, drought spells, flash floods, floods, landslides and volcano eruptions, causing frequent destruction, damage and losses. Agriculture is among the most vulnerable sectors to extreme weather events and changing climate. People depending on agriculture are regularly facing the challenge to protect and maintain their livelihoods.
