Organic farming is recognized as one source for innovation helping agriculture to develop sustainably. However, the understanding of innovation in agriculture is characterized by technical optimism, relying mainly on new inputs and technologies originating from research. The paper uses the alternative framework of innovation systems describing innovation as the outcome of stakeholder interaction and examples from the SOLID (Sustainable Organic Low-Input Dairying) project to discuss the role of farmers, researchers and knowledge exchange for innovation.
This is the proceedings of the international conference ‘Innovations in Organic Food System for Sustainable Production and Enhanced Ecosystem Services’. The proceedings are a compilation of peer-reviewed articles based on presentations of 18 speakers invited conference speakers and published as a Special Issue of the scientific journal ‘Sustainable Agriculture Research’ by the Canadian Centre of Science and Education.
The creative process that leads to farmers’ innovations is rarely studied or described precisely in agricultural sciences. For academic scientists, obvious limitations of farmers’ experiments are e.g. precision, reliability, robustness, accuracy, validity or the correct analysis of cause and effect. Nevertheless, we propose that ‘farmers’ experiments’ underpin innovations that keep organic farming locally tuned for sustainability and adaptable to changing economic, social and ecological conditions.
The module aimed to identify and examine the main features and characteristics of complex agricultural problems, explore innovative solutions to address complex agricultural problems, and examine the circumstances under which innovative solutions emerge.
This presentation was presented in Addis Ababa (Kenya) and discuss about the initiatives carried out by FAO, CGIAR, Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation (TAAT) and the ILRI in order enhance the capacity development for agriculture on proven Livestock Technology in Eastern Africa
Farmers’ experiments can be defined as the autonomous activities of farmers to try or introduce something new at the farm, and include evaluation of success or failure with farmers’ own methods. Experiments enable farmers to adapt their farms to changing circumstances, build up local knowledge, and have resulted in countless agricultural innovations. Most research on the topic has been conducted in countries of the south.
Este trabajo tiene como objetivo general determinar las principales problemáticas del manejo del chiltepín en la región serrana del estado de Sonora, y diseñar estrategias que transformen el sentido de esta actividad volviéndola sustentable y con mejores resultados para quienes la desarrollan. En el marco de referencia se detallan las estrategias de mercado que se implementar para el desarrollo de los productos elaborado a base de chiltepín; así como la descripción de las 4p´s de la mercadotecnia.

La presente investigación describe y analiza las acciones comerciales que se realizan en seis grupos de productores apícolas ubicados en la periferia de la capital del estado de Puebla, México. Se estudian las orientaciones que se han desarrollado en torno a la mercadotecnia, como una disciplina dedicada al análisis e implicaciones de las acciones comerciales, tomando como eje central las preferencias de los consumidores.
El presente estudio de mercado forma parte de la estrecha colaboración que existe entre la Universidad Tecnológica de la Costa con el sector productivo. El objetivo fue determinar la factibilidad de expandir la comercialización de productos lácteos de la empresa Villahgo en la ciudad de Santiago Ixcuintla, Nayarit. Se aplicaron 117 encuestas, para el cálculo de la muestra se fijó un error máximo de 8%, trabajando con 92% de nivel de confianza.
