This report explores the role of rural networks in enhancing innovation processes, questioning the features of the agricultural/rural networks could enhance farmers’ ability to co-innovate in cooperation with other actors. The prospect of this investigation is also to provide interesting and significant experiences that constitute examples for the ‘European Innovation Partnership’ by increasing farmers’ capacities to create, test, implement and evaluate innovations in cooperation with other rural actors.
The present case study investigated a policy-induced agricultural innovation network in Brandenburg.
This report has the aim of contributing to the PRO AKIS overall goal of exploring and identifying the possibilities, conditions and requirements of rural networks to enhance the farmers’ ability to create, test, implement and evaluate innovation in cooperation with other actors.In particular, the report presents two cases: the Small Fruit Cluster (SFC) and the Drosophila Suzukii Monitoring (DSM) network. Este fascículo, en su versión actual , es el primero de una serie inicial de textos y recursos del Sistema de Gestión Estratégica para el Desarrollo Territorial y la Agricultura Familiar (SiGET), cuya finalidad es compartir un conjunto de orientaciones metodológicas sobre los procesos de gestión social del desarrollo de los territorios rurales y de los sistemas territoriales de agricultura familiar (STAF) que son o pueden convertirse en motores de desarrollo.
La agricultura de América Latina y el Caribe (ALC) se enfrenta a una oportunidad global sin precedentes: satisfacer los patrones de consumo diferenciados y de mayor calidad de 7000 millones de personas en la actualidad y de no menos 9000 millones para el 2050. A esta oportunidad se suma el valor que le brinda la agricultura a las poblaciones rurales, no solo como su fuente alimentaria, sino también como su única o primordial fuente de ingresos. Y son los territorios rurales precisamente los llamados a prepararse, adaptarse y asumir el reto de alimentar al mundo.
Tomando el caso de la agricultura holandesa como ejemplo, en este documento se hace un análisis del surgimiento y el papel de los gestores sistémicos de innovación en el estímulo de la interacción al interior del sistema de innovación agrícola y el desarrollo de la capacidad de innovación, además de reflexionar sobre su posible función en la agricultura de los países en vías de desarrollo y emergentes así como en la forma en que se puede promover su surgimiento y operación.
This document summarizes the fifteen projects that were selected by a panel of international experts as those which best represent the technological, institutional and organizational innovations carried out with and by small farmers – known as family farming - in LAC. This is the result of a hemisphere-wide competition organized in 2012 by FONTAGRO, with the aim of (1) showcasing success stories in which innovations having positive economic, social, and environmental impacts have been implemented and, (2) raising awareness regarding the importance of investing in innovation.
Good agricultural practices (GAPs) are an indispensable tool for risk management due to the close relationship between agriculture and climate, as well as the climate variability currently being experienced. The implementation of these tools, however, involves fostering innovation, increasing knowledge and giving stakeholders, small producers in particular, a holistic view, so that they may improve their production systems, increase their resilience, and ensure their sustainability.
